Thanks for the comment Derek - yes, seems at this stage that the business plans are becoming more and more important but I do think there's certainly a nod to good TV rather than the best entrepreneur.

Hi Anne, sorry I've only just seen your comment - apologies for the delay in responding! Yes, I cringe everytime I hear that too; the country's doomed if they're out best hope! I think you mean Joanne, yes, very savvy and her media experience shines through. I do wonder why she's in the competition (and if she'll be successful) as I'm not sure if she'd work well as a partner with Bill as she seems successful in her own business already.....just a thought. Good blog Daniella. Was discussing this with a mate last night and we both felt there is a significant factor at play in who wins this show- and that is the actual business idea that each candidate brings forward in the final. I think the investment is €200k for the winner in total, some of which is professional services.

My guess is that of the four finalists the eventual winner won't necessarily be the best entrepreneur but rather will be the person whose business idea most fits in with Bill's organisational objectives.

There's a couple of them there that have a business plan for a restaurant- I'm not so sure that investing €200k into a restaurant during a recession this will go down well with Bill but time will tell.

I was seriously surprised that I really enjoyed this movie. The funny thing is, I had no interest in seeing Beginners. It’s not that I had anything against it, but it looked kind of boring. The only reason I ended up putting it in my Blockbuster Movie Pass was because my wife said she thought it looked interesting. did was because my wife wanted to see it, and I thought ‘why not?’, thinking that if it was as boring as I thought it might be, well at least we could take it straight in and do an in-store exchange so it wouldn’t ruin movie night. It didn’t turn out to be bad at all, in fact the acting was superb. I recommend seeing it at least once, especially if you have an inexpensive way of doing so. That’s why I love the Blockbuster Movie Pass. For $10 a month I get 20 movie channels, instant streaming (with thousands of available titles that is growing all the time), and DVD’s, Blu-rays and even video game rentals through the mail. My Gamefly account that I just cancelled was $14.99 by itself! It’s really rounded out my entertainment options and as a DISH Network subscriber/employee I couldn’t be happier with it.

I think we'll see a move away from the traditional '9 to 5' career path and more of a portfolio career model (i.e., you may work 4 days a week, lecture one afternoon a week and then sell your art online). This is becoming more popular - Conor you're a great example! - and I think the economic instability of the continued recession will fuel the desire for ordinary people (as opposed to wealthy entrepreneurs etc) to have more control over the financial future. This model means that even becoming a victim of downsizing doesn't necessarily mean you're financially ruined and also offers the potential to gain different skills, meet different contacts and even follow different career paths.

Hi Conor

A major new trend in the Arts is a DIY approach as artists organise events and exhibitions in non-standard venues - in general the odder the better! The whole notion of 'pop-up' galleries and event spaces is really taking off, and I would expect this to continue - and to become a badge of honour.

The key factor is to side step the traditional commercial gallery system which many now see as too homogenised and controlling. We have had a phenomenum in recent times of 'art is art because the gallery owner sez so!' - the makers want to reclaim this right and to invite new audiences to participate in new ways. Typically the exhibition becomes an event with a gig and party etc.

There are a lot of new and often young artist groups emerging, and a lot of artists of all generations are moving towards mixing and matching different media - a particular trend is the incorporation of digital sound into exhibits and 'blended' exhibitions with wall art, installations, musicians and video, and a bit of a party all together.

A general key trend in the Arts is the use of digital media in new ways, and some very imaginative soundscapes-with-images combos, blending music composition with visal arts.

I couldn't believe when Peter answered the call in the meeting - crazy! I wish the intro of the show would stop calling the candidates "Irelands entrepreneurial elite" because they clearly aren't! Noel does seem to have the most cop on. Also the PM of the other team -can't think of her name- she's good.
